Research on Super Capacitor Market in China and Investment Prospect Forecast, 2010-2018

Home and abroad R&D Trend

By virtue of many years of R&D and technical accumulation, US, Japan, Russia, Switzerland, South Korea and France take the leading position in respect of the industrialization of super capacitor, such as: Maxwel in US, NEC, Panasonic and Tokin in Japan and Econd in Russia etc, which take most shares of global market. The main foreign manufacturers include MAXWELL in US, ECOND and ELIT in Russia, ELNA, PANASONIC and NEC-TOKIN in Japan and NESS, KORCHIP and NUINTEK in South Korea.

US, Japan and South Korea have been committed to develop super capacitor with high specific power and high specific energy all the time. In R&D of super capacitor, lot of work is to develop varieties of electrode materials with specific energy in electrolyte. At present, the main materials applied in super capacitor include carbon-based materials, metal oxide and hydrate materials and conducting polymer materials.

The research on superfine capacitor starts early overseas and the technology is more mature. They all treat super capacitor project as national key R&D project and put forward short, middle and long-term development plan.

ESMA is the representative producing inorganic hybrid super capacitor in Russia, but it has not formed scale production yet. In addition, ELIT in Russia, SAFT in France, COOPER in US and NEC and PANASONIC in Japan also invest large-amount of funds to study the scale production of large-capacity super capacitor.

At present, there are over 50 manufacturers engaging in R&D of large-capacity super capacitor, however, only 10 of which can conduct scale production and reach the applicable level.

The super capacitor for vehicle-use developed by Shanghai Aowei Technology Development Co., Ltd is advanced in technical level.

Compared with the performance of foreign super capacitors, the technical level of capacitor In this Company has been very high, the specific comparison indicators are as follow:

Domestic and foreign enterprises NESS in South Korea Maxwell in US ESMA in Russia Shanghai AOWEI

  • Static capacitance?F? 5000 2600 130000 80000 150000
  • Energy density?Wh/Kg? 4.3 4 8 10 15
  • Power density?W/Kg? 2500 2000 1000 1000 2000
  • Monomer internal resistance?m?? 0.4 0.7 0.4 0.6 0.5
  • Source: National Bureau of Statistics of China

The comparison in above table suggests: the physical properties of Aowei Products are very close to and some properties even exceed the foreign similar products. In overall, Aowei products has reached the advanced level of similar products internationally.

In China, the overseas products almost account for 90% of market shares of button super capacitor, the competition is very fierce. In recent years, in view of the promising application prospect of this field, some Chinese enterprises also begin to involve into this industry and has owned a certain of technical strength and industrialization capability.

At present, most domestic manufacturers produce liquid double electric layer capacitors. Key manufacturers include: Jinzhou Fucheng Company, Supreme Power Systems Co., Ltd, Shanghai Aowei Technology Development Co., Ltd, Jinzhou Jinrong Company, Shijiazhuang Gaoda Company, Beijing Jinzhengping Company, Jinzhou Kaimei Company, Daqing Zhengfu Company, Jiangsu Shuangdeng Company, Harbin Jurong Company and Nanjing Jihua Company etc more than 10 manufacturers. In which Jinzhou Fuchen Company is the largest super capacitor manufacturer in China, mainly producing button and winding super capacitor. Beijing Jixing Company can produce winding and large-scale capacitor. It is given out that 60%-70% of market shares are taken by domestic super capacitor in China.
